After all, he did not earn the title Beach Citizen of the Year (2012) by resting on his professional laurels! Among his favourite community pursuits is his role as the “one guy” behind building and daily maintenance of the large natural ice rink in the Glen Stewart Ravine. Called one of the city's prettiest places to skate and a community gathering spot, it provides endless hours of fun and exercise for neighbourhood youth and families alike, where many skate for the first time. Most people who use the rink don't realise that it's just Thomas that makes and maintains this rink every year! He'll be there on the coldest nights and mornings, scraping and shovelling the rink, and flooding the ice to make it as good as it gets!

He is also actively involved as a leading sponsor and contributor to many local Beach youth sport leagues; and his past and continued support of many of this neighbourhood's community groups and charitable causes is well-known, including ongoing support of the Beach Historical Society through his Beach Metro real estate columns. You might well recognize him too during many events around The Beach during the Christmas season, as he dons his Santa Claus suit and spreads good-will and Christmas spirit. All this, and he still finds time to be involved in his children's minor hockey and figure skating programs; organize (and play in) a local Men's Hockey League; and be a long-time and current Director with the Scarborough Young Bruins GTHL ‘AA’ Hockey Club.
